Proper name: Xinh Mun.
Other names: Puoc, Xa, Pna.
Local groups: Xinh Mun Da, Xinh Mun Nghet.
Population: 10.890 people.
Language: The Siiih Mun language belongs to the Mon- Khmer language group. The Sinh Mun speak Thai very well.
History: The Sinh Mun have long been settled in northwestern Vietnam.
Production activities: The Sinh Mun plant rice in terraced fields. Some practice wet-rice cultivation.
Diet: The Sinh Mun eat rice and sticky rice, and they like spicy foods. They have the custom of chewing betel nuts which dye their teeth black.
Clothing: Sinh Mun clothing styles are similar to those of the Thai.
Lifestyle: The Sinh Mun live in stilt houses,, with some roofs taking the shape of the/ turtle shell.
Transportation: Sinh Mun generally carry their goods in baskets on their backs, attached with a tumpline to the forehead.
Social organization:
Sinh Mun families are small, mainly patriarchal. However,
larger families still exist, with three generations of
married brothers living together in the same household.
Family size can vary anywhere from 10 to 15 members to
sometimes 20 to 30 members in the same household.
The Sinh Mun have plenty of family last names, but Vi and
Lo are the most popular ones.
