Thanh Hoa presents 100 bronze drums to Hanoi
The central province of Thanh Hoa on August 28
organized a ceremony to send 100 bronze drums to the National Steering Board for
Hanoi’s 1,000th Anniversary in Hanoi.
Of 100 drums, 99 have two dragons and the line: “Thang Long – Hanoi’s Great
Anniversary.” The remaining drum, the largest, has 1,000 dragons on it and was
used during the Ly dynasty. The Hanoi People’s Committee presented the drum.
The 99 bronze drums weigh between 55-60kg, with a height of between 48cm and
60cm. The remaining drum is 79cm high and 1m in diameter.
Thanh Hoa’s craftsmen cast the bronze drums, using traditional methods, dubbed
the designs of ancient bronze drums excavated in Ngoc Lu, Quang Xuong, Hoang Ha,
and Song Da.
Another ceremony was held on August 29 at Hanoi’s Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of
Literature) to receive the drums.
These bronze drums will be beaten only one time during Hanoi’s 1000th
anniversary. After the anniversary, they will be presented to 63 provinces and
cities and 37 outstanding individuals and organizations.
The casting of the drums began on December 2009.
