US$1 million preservation for Thang Long Royal Citadel
The Japanese Trust Fund will provide US$1.1 million to a project to preserve the
Thang Long Royal Citadel in Hanoi and maintaining the nearby community’s
development.
The project is of great significance for Hanoi as the Royal Citadel will be a
central point of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi as Vietnam’s
capital.
The project was signed in Hanoi on January 20 by the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Hanoi People’s Committee.
The Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Ngo Thi Thang Hang,
emphasized that parts of the royal citadel area contain invaluable historical
and cultural values, showing the development history of Thang Long Capital City
as well as the history of the founding and growth of the country.
Hang also praised UNESCO for raising funds from the Japanese Government to
assist the Co Loa Relic and Thang Long Ancient Citadel Preservation Centre in
order to carry out the project effectively.
