Curtains up for traditional opera
Hundreds of artists from 17 cheo (traditional
opera) troupes throughout the country have been taking part in a national
professional cheo festival held in the northern province of Quang Ninh from
yesterday, December 15.
As many as 19 cheo plays will be performed at the event. Directors Doan Hoang
Giang and Le Hung will each stage three plays. Playwright Tran Dinh Ngon and Bui
Dac Su have written five plays for the festival, despite regulations issued by
the culture ministry’s Performing Arts Department that only permits each author
to submit no more than three works.
The festival, which is held every five years, will end on December 25.
