Craft villages are facing serious difficulties

      A seminar titled “Traditional craft villages – Potential and orientation for development” held in the central city of Hue on June 14th indicated that craft villages are facing a critical situation.
Vietnam currently has 2,790 craft villages with nearly 12 million workers. These craft villages can produce nearly 200 kinds of products for export, earning around US$700 million per year.
However, by March this year, as many as 9 craft villages, 2 enterprises and 2,166 household businesses went bankrupt while another 124 villages and 468 enterprises have been not operating at full capacity.
Reports presented at the seminar also showed that over 80% of these production units are now lacking capital, production techniques, and equipment.
