Round table meeting on coordination of international donors for Viet Nam tourism
On Jan, 28th 2016, the Viet Nam National Administration of
Tourism (VNAT) with the technical support of EU- ESRT Project held a round table
meeting on coordination of international donors for Viet Nam tourism.
According to VNAT’s International Cooperation Department, in the last five
years, Viet Nam tourism has gained many remarkable achievements and recorded
7.94 million int’l arrivals and 57 million domestic trippers in 2015. In the
period 2011-2015, the average growth of int’l arrivals and domestic trippers
were 5.7%/year and 16.3 %/year, respectively. Total tourism receipts in 2015
reached VND 337.8 thousand billions contributing 5% of GDP, the average growth
over 25%/year.
The above results have exceeded targets set for 2015 in the Viet Nam tourism’s
development strategy to 2020, vision 2030. However, 18,800 tourist
accommodations with 355,000 rooms and tourism human resource of 1.78 million
employees (including 555,000 tourism direct employees) have not reached the
targets of the strategy for 2015.
In the recent years, Viet Nam tourism sector has received strong support of
international organizations like the EU, JICA, AECID, Luxembourg, ADB, UNESCO,
SNV, ILO, KTO... to build legal documents and tourism planning; to develop
tourist products; to support tourism promotion and human resource training…
Many foreign investment projects have played an important role in supporting
Viet Nam tourism development towards sustainability, and high quality, high
competitive capacity, contributing to poverty alleviation.
In the coming time, Viet Nam tourism sector expects to receive more int’l
supports including: enhancing institutional capacity and state management in
tourism area focusing on revised tourism law, tourism integration in ASEAN and
the world, and raising capacity of the tourism sector to cope with crisis,
climate change, impacts of the world economy; developing tourist products which
focuses on special tourism products of high competitive advantage, and
responsible tourism development; constructing tourist infrastructure which
focuses on building public tourist works and attracting major investors;
developing tourism human resource which focuses on training foreign languages
and e-marketing for tourism managers; applying information technology to
effectively exploit e-marketing and software for tourism management; improving
competitive capacity of tourism enterprises.
Besides above proposals, participants suggested that the MoCST and VNAT play an
important role to direct and coordinate all donor programs to utilize the
effectiveness.
Speaking at the meeting, Director General Nguyen Van Tuan expressed his pleasure
that the parties had founded their cooperation opportunities in the coming time.
He also highly appreciated the support of international donors to promote the
development of Viet Nam Tourism in the past time.
In addition, Director General Nguyen Van Tuan also agreed to hold a large
tourism forum (scheduled in May 2016) aiming to propose demands, solutions to
call for financial and technical supports for the development of Viet Nam
tourism in the new period.
