City bans fireworks, performances on safety grounds
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s
Committee has banned the use of sky lanterns and all performances involving fire
at places like bars, discotheques, and restaurants.
Their owners must also ensure that their places are not involved in possessing,
trading, transporting, or using items like firecrackers, fireworks, and signal
flares.
Offenders will see their establishments temporarily or even permanently closed
down depending on the seriousness of the case.
The city’s directive added that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism
and the fire department would draft regulations stipulating where sky lanterns
can be used.
The People’s Committee will consider the draft for approval.
