Dien Bien Province focuses on developing community-based tourism

From 2004 to 2010, Dien Bien Province has invested in
community-based tourism development in eight cultural villages of Dien Bien
District and Dien Bien Phu City.
Many families have voluntarily donated their land with total nearly 7,000m2 for
construction of welfare establishment, cultural house…; actively improved their
houses, restored traditional handicraft production, participated in offering
tourist services.
After seven years of implementation, the villages have welcomed over 65,000
tourist arrivals, including 6,000 international ones and earned 7 billion VND.
In order to promote community-based tourism development in Dien Bien, the
Culture, Sports and Tourism Department has submitted for approval the project of
developing cultural ethnic villages period 2010-2015. In particular, the
province will select another 10 villages of Hmong, Thai, Lao, Kho Mu ... ethnic
people, located on the province's key tourist routes in Tuan Giao, Dien Bien,
Muong Cha districts and Dien Bien Phu City for developing into tourist
attractions.
The ethnic villages are expected to attract from 10 to 15% of the total number
of tourists to Dien Bien annually after the project is completed.
