Intangible Cultural Heritage Documentation Workshop in Vietnam
    
The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Documentation Workshop is 
co-organized by Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP) 
under the auspices of UNESCO, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology (VIM) and 
the Department of Cultural Heritage (DCH) and Viet Nam Institute of Culture and 
Art Studies (VICAS), is being held from 2 to 6 July in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
The documentation experts who have experience and knowledge in the ICH field 
Will present ICH documentation case studies and discuss ways to develop 
methodologies for ICH documentation.
The two-day workshop on 2 and 3 July 2012 started by a keynote presentation by 
Dr Seong-Yong Park (Assistant Director of ICHCAP), and Ms Nguyen Kim Dung of the 
DCH provided a brief introduction of the ICH documentation project for Viet Nam.
The two sessions dealt with case studies of ICH documentation in Viet Nam and 
Korea and Korean experts presented practical matters, such as recording methods 
and collecting sounds in the field.
The sessions also featured special lecturers from Korea, Mr Bong-Nam Park 
(award-winning director, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam), Mr Gwan 
Jo Jeong (jury of Gangneung Danoje festival documentary film), Mr Sang Il Choi 
(producer specialised in folk-music), and Mr Wo Sam Jeon (camera director) to 
deliver informative talks.
After the two-day workshop meeting, participants will travel to Ngai Cau, which 
is well-known for Ca tru singing, a famous, traditional music of Viet Nam that 
was inscribed on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent 
Safeguarding of UNESCO in 2009.
This is an opportunity for staffs of VIM, Department of Cultural Heritage and 
Departments of Culture, Sport and Tourism to exchange experience and assist 
understanding of intangible cultural heritage documentation with help from the 
experts ./.
