Hai Luu Buffalo Fighting Festival 2012 opens in Vinh Phuc

On February 7, the Hai Luu traditional buffalo fighting festival
2012 was organised in Vinh Phuc.
More than 10,000 viewers flocked to Hai Luu Stadium to see four knock-out rounds
between 28 fighting buffalo from 19 hamlets. The championship is determined
through the four rounds with 24 fights.
This is the 11th consecutive time the festival took place in Hai Luu Commune,
after an interruption from 1947 due to the resistance wars against France and
the US. Legend has it that the Hai Luu buffalo fighting festival began in the
2nd century BC, around 2,220 years ago.
The festival took place over two days on February 7th and 8th (the sixteenth and
seventeenth days of the first lunar month).
