Over 6 million int’l tourists visited Vietnam in 2011

Ms. Hoang Thi Diep, deputy head of Vietnam National
Administration of Tourism, revealed that Vietnam received more than 6 million
international visitors during 2011.
The National Tourism Year 2012 program themed “Heritage Tourism” featuring a
series of activities to be celebrated throughout the North Central coastal
regions during the course of next year is expected to raise this figure even
higher by 2012.
The event, to be hosted by Thua Thien-Hue Province will promote domestic tourism
and highlight the beautiful destinations in the region.
Accordingly, the organizers will develop and build special tourist cultural
products and services, promote cultural heritage and historical sites, and
highlight the intangible heritage of each area.
In addition, there will be many interesting activities such as a ceremony
commemorating King Tran Nhan Tong when he entered Nirvana in Quang Ninh
Province; the Hoa Lu ancient capital festival in Ninh Binh Province; the troop
banquet ceremony honoring and commemorating the Hoang Sa fleet which patrols the
Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in Quang Ngai Province;
international fireworks competition in Da Nang; Vietnam cave festival in Quang
Binh and the Sen (lotus) village festival in Nghe An.
